Han Sot (한솥)

Han Sot is a chain in Korea that specializes in dosirak (도시락) or bento or lunch boxes.  One just opened up around my way and the timing couldn’t have been better.  I’ve been on welfare-mode as of late and Han Sot is a great place to get pretty decent dirt-cheap food. To give you an idea on how cheap it is, the cheapest lunch box meal is 1,700.  You can even opt to get your lunch boxes without rice bringing the price down even more by 400 won.

For my first visit I got the chicken mayo (2,500). It’s one of the items on their “best-seller” line.  It comes out kinda like a donburi with shredded pieces of scrambled egg and chopped up bits of crispy chicken served on top of whole buncha rice.  They give you packages of brown sauce and mayo and some laver.  Add the sauces, shred up some laver, stir it up, and enjoy.  Considering how much I paid for it, it was pretty good and it left me feeling full.

Yesterday, we went for lunch and I got one of their more normal lunch boxes.  It came with donkatsu, squid-katsu(!), jaeyuk, a macaroni salad, spinach, kimchi, and some beans that I didn’t quite care for.  What was kinda interesting is that the meat banchans are served on top of spaghetti (just the noodles).  Again, the meal was pretty decent and filling.
